John Palmer Moving & Storage offers valuation coverage options to help protect your goods during your move or while in our storage facility.
In addition to up-to-date packing materials and practices, John Palmer Moving & Storage protects your relocation by looking out for your possessions in transit or storage with valuation coverage. This is a predetermined amount of liability that a mover has for your property during the move.
(Note: valuation coverage is not insurance. Moving companies are not licensed to sell insurance.)
The amount of valuation coverage you carry during your move is dependent upon you. Independent insurance agencies suggest a replacement value for your personal belongings of $8-$10 per pound.
Standard coverage
Standard coverage is provided at no extra charge. However, it uses a replacement value of just 60 cents a pound, which may not cover items like expensive electronics, so consider this option carefully.
Full replacement valuation
Full Replacement Value Protection is the most comprehensive plan available for protection of your goods and does costs extra. In long-distance moves, coverage is based on the weight of your shipment at $6 per pound. For local moves in Massachusetts, we calculate coverage on 1,000 lbs of goods per room, or $6,000 in coverage for every room we move. If any article is lost, destroyed or damaged while in our custody, we will, at our option, either 1) repair the article to the extent necessary to restore it to the same condition as when it was received by John Palmer Moving & Storage, or pay you for the cost of such repairs; or 2) replace the article with an article of like kind and quality, or pay you for the cost of such a replacement.
Your moving consultant will help you identify items of extraordinary value (worth more than $100 per pound) to make sure they’re covered and walk you through your options for deductibles (from $0 to $250). If you’re planning to pack and unpack your possessions yourself, your moving consultant will talk about how this affects your valuation coverage and how you can best protect your move.

- Failing to notify your mover in writing about articles of extraordinary value.
- John Palmer Moving & Storage does not move jewelry, cash, coins, or currency and cannot take responsibility for their loss.
